Traditional Uses
In the bible, coriander is compared with manna. The Chinese associated it with immortality and it is mentioned in Sanskrit texts and has been recognised as an important culinary and medicinal herb since early times.
It was highly regarded as an aphrodisiac from the times of the early Greek, Roman and Egyptian civilisations to the Middle Ages when it was an ingredient of love potions. Hipocrates made a number of mentions of coriander's application in medicine.
Current uses
Coriander's essential oils, high in vitamin C, potassium, geranial and linalool, may be added to ointments for relief of rheumatic joint and muscle pains.
These minerals also aid the circulatory system, digestive system and is beneficial for the skin
Coriander has been approved by the German Commission E for internal use in dyspeptic complaints (disturbed digestion) and loss of appetite. .

Precautions and side effects
There is some concern that coriander/cilantro may increase the chances of miscarriage or decrease that chances of falling pregnant.
Cilantro may increase stomach acidity.
Coriander tea is reportedly excellent for migraines and as a digestive tonic and mild sedative
The tea may be prepared by adding a ¼ teaspoon of crushed coriander seeds to a cup of boiling water, leaving the mixture to infuse for 10 minutes or so. Strain and add sugar to taste.
To relief an upset tummy, try ¼ teaspoonful of coriander, ¼ teaspoonful of rosemary and mix in ½ teaspoonful of peppermint with one cup of water and infuse for 10 minutes. Drink after food
The names Coriander and Cilantro are generally used interchangably in most parts of the world.
To the purists, Cilantro is the above ground part of the herb and Coriander, technically speaking, is the seed, usually used ground as a spice.
Coriander is also commonly used to refer to the whole plant.
