Traditional Uses

The name Lavender comes from the French word 'lavare', which means 'to wash', giving a good indication of its cleansing properties.

Current uses

Lavender is an herb well-known in countries all over the world, including Europe and Africa and is also used in Arab medicine as an expectorant.

It is best known for its calming properties and as a tonic for the nervous system. It is also a circulatory stimulant and antiseptic and is used naturopathically to treat wounds and burns and to prevent scarring.

Lavender contains the active ingredients tannins, coumarins, flavinoids, triterpenoids and volatile oil.
