Traditional Uses

Maca grows in the high mountains of Peru and has been used for thousands of years to improve sexual performance and enjoyment

Current uses

Rich in potassium and calcium maca root is a natural hormonal balancer benefiting both men and women.

It's is used increasingly to enhance sexual libido and relieve menopause symptoms, and is also believed to benefit energy, stamina, depression and memory,

It has as its main constituents triterpene glycosides, cinnamic acid derivatives, chromone, isoflavones, tannins and salicylic acid.

Maca is a safe herb with few, if any, side effects.

It is reported that high doses could lead to insomnia.

Research

Recent clinical studies carried out in Germany have confirmed that Cimicifuga is strongly estrogenic and that it is effective in relieving menopausal symptoms.

Small scale studies of 3 to 4 month duration carried out in Peru demonstrated increased sexual desire amongst men and increased seminal volume, sperm count per ejaculation, and sperm motility.

Serum hormone levels and serum testoterone were not altered.
