Current uses

Meadowsweet is known to protect and soothe the mucous membranes of the digestive tract, thereby reducing excess acidity and easing nausea .

It is effective in the relief of heartburn, hyperacidity , gastritis and peptic ulceration and has been used to treat diarrhoea in children.

Meadowsweet's effectiveness in reducing fever and relieving the pain of rheumatism in muscles and joints is accounted for by the presence in it of aspirin-like chemicals

In Germany, Meadowsweet is used as a supportive treatment for common colds. Meadowsweet contains salicylic acid which acts to reduce fever. It is also used for water retention and for bladder and kidney ailments. Externally the infusion can serve as a wash for wounds or inflamed eyes
