Saw palmetto has been widely and effectively used as a treatment for the symptoms of BPH.
It appears that it is as effective as finasteride and is better tolerated, less expensive, and less likely to decrease PSA levels.
Saw Palmetto is now the teatment of choice for male hair loss by interrupting hormonal signals thereby reducing the uptake by the hair follicles of a the chemical DHT (dyhydrotestosterone) which is known to convert testosterone into a chemical that can lead to hair loss (read more in my full article below)

There are no known drug interactions with saw palmetto, and reported side effects are minor and rare. No data on its long-term usage are available.
