There is much misinformation surrounding the use of Soy in Eastern countries.
The commonly held belief that soy is a traditional staple in Asia is simply untrue. It was occasionally used during times of extreme food shortages but otherwise was never part of the staple diet of Asians. In fact Asians were very aware of inherent toxins and when they did use soy were very careful to eliminate as much of these toxins as possible by lengthy fermentation processes.
An important study designed to ascertain the amount of soy traditionally consumed in China found that the total caloric intake due to soy in the Chinese diet in the 1930's, was only 1.5%, compared with 65% for pork (KC Chang, editor of Food in Chinese Culture).
Soy foods are commonly believed, particularly by vegetarians, to have nutritional benefits and the fact that they contain isoflavones, an essential dietary component, is used to support this belief.
Soy “protein” is thought to be effective in reducing cholesterol, in supporting kidney health, and it is conjectured that it enables calcium to be better utilized, helping to support bone health.
However it is known that soy contains an array of potent chemical toxins which modern manufacturing processes of high-profit industries apparently make no effort to remove.
Phytoestrogens that can upset endocrine function are present in vast quantities in soy, including the undesirable isoflavone Genistein
It is now known that Infants exclusively fed soy-based formula have literally thousands of times more estrogen compounds in their blood than babies fed milk-based formula, the estrogenic equivalent of at least five birth control pills per day.
It is therefore suspected that the use of soy formula results in the premature development of girls and the underdevelopment of males. Infant soy formula has also been linked to autoimmune thyroid disease .
Toxins found to be present in soy product, are phytic acid, trypsin inhibitors, toxic lysinoalanine and highly carcinogenic nitrosamines .| The Herb Spiral does not recommend the use of soy based products. This page, therefore contains no advertisements for any Soy products |
