Traditional Uses

Witch Haezel has been traditionally used by native North Americans as poultices for painful swellings and tumours

Pond's Extract of Witch Hazel was popular in early days as a general household remedy for burns, scalds, and inflammatory conditions of the skin generally.

It has been also been generally used to relieve eye inflammations, hemorrhoids, bites, stings and skin sores, diarrhoea and dysentery

Current uses

Herbalists attribute witch hazel's effect to an action on the muscular fibre of veins. it is a common ingredient in formulas used in skincare, eye and haemorrhoid products.

Extract from the fresh leaves and young twigs provides an effective remedy for internal or external uses, being usefull for bleeding from the lungs and nose, and other internal organs.

In traeting of varicose veins, the ectract of witch hazel should be applied on a lint bandage, which must be kept moist.

A pad of Witch Hazel applied to a burst varicose vein will stop the bleeding and often save life by its instant application.
